Smoking Hypnosis
How many times have you heard if you want to stop smoking try hypnosis? And how many people that you have heard who used hypnosis and stopped smoking said it was horrible, painful, scary and traumatic? Exactly, none! What people say after they experience hypnosis are things like, "I didn't think it would work but I don't want a cigarette" or "I felt great when it was over, real relaxed and I don't want to smoke." To stop smoking hypnosis is nothing less than a pleasurable experience where all the effort and struggle is removed so you can once and for all become healthy again.
I recall a client I had, a young woman who was smart enough to realize she needed to stop smoking before more time passed. And unlike most people she didn't try any other means such as the nicotine patch, prescription meds or other harmful things available to put in your body. Imagine putting a unnatural substance in your body to stop another form of putting harmful substance into your body. It borders on insane. Anyway, Maria came in and was excited. When we met in the reception area of my office she said, "I've been waiting to come do this since I made the appointment. I can't wait any longer." I asked if it was because she has problems because of the smoking and there is urgency and she replied, "No, I just want to try hypnosis and see what it's like." That always feels good when someone wants to experience hypnosis and is open to the process and the benefits they can receive.
After our brief talk about hypnosis, her smoking habit and what she might expect during the session, I could see she was even more excited knowing we were getting closer to the actual session. Maria was in the place all good clients are. Willing and anticipating nothing but good things. She already believed to stop smoking hypnosis would help her because she had friends who used hypnosis to stop smoking and she also saw stage hypnosis demonstrations at her college. She wasn't the skeptic or the cynical thinker or the person who came up with every myth and misconception people use about hypnosis. She wanted it, she chose this method and she was ready. Needless to say Maria responded very well to the session and knew to stop smoking hypnosis was going to work for her… because she believed it and accepted it already. This is key to a successful outcome, belief and expectancy. Why would anyone want to schedule hypnosis sessions and come in with a negative mindset. That's like going to a baseball game and hating baseball. Why bother? Oh, I didn't mention, I also teach people after they stop smoking self hypnosis techniques to maintain their health. But back to Maria. When we were finished Maria opened her eyes and said, "WOW! That was awesome. I can't wait to tell everyone what it's like. I feel great." I interrupted her for a moment and said, "Maria. Do you want a cigarette?" She replied,"Uhhg, gross."
